a woodbeck household staple recipe || homemade pizza

What’s the best meal to have on a Friday night after a long week? Pizza, of course!

We began making our own pizza dough at the beginning of the year and have had pizza 1-2 times a month since! It is a good staple meal item and easy to put together so it often becomes a last minute dinner option (if I remember to make it on time). The biggest thing to note about this recipe: it takes 18 hours for the dough to rise.

Each time we make the dough we are altering the recipe in some way. Through our trials, we have slowly been discovering what works best and what we like best. And I suppose that’s the great thing about making your own dough- once you have the basic recipe then you can change it any way you like! For instance, sometimes we add Oregano or Italian Seasoning for a “spiced” dough; sometimes all the flour is All Purpose, sometimes we use half All Purpose and half wheat; sometimes we make breadsticks as a side using a small section of the dough, etc.

What you will need:

  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (warm) water
  • 1/4 teaspoon yeast

Stir ingredients together well in a medium to large bowl. Knead. Cover  bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Place in warmest part of your kitchen for 18 hours. When it is time to bake pizza, flatten & form dough on a baking sheet. Cover with sauce and top with cheese and other fresh ingredients. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes. *(I’m not sure on that last instruction because we change it every time ☺️. Check pizza regularly to avoid burning! It doesn’t take long to bake).

Now go make this recipe tonight so that it’s ready in time for your Friday night celebrations! 🙂
